This particular Y-shaped pond is about 12,000 square feet, just about the size of a small man-made lake.  Because the surface area was so large and mostly uneven, it was decided to spray Pond Shield Tan in order to lay down a more even coat.  The black pipe you see running through the pond is actually a city run off line that allows properties above this one to channel run off into sewers well below this property.  The pipe, being black, stood out and a special primer was mixed that would allow Pond Shield to permanently bond to the pipe thereby minimizing its appearance.
